Aquaponics, Gardening, and Maybe Success

What does sustainability mean to you? Think about it. There are many ways of achieving a perpetual cycle when it comes to living a simple natural lifestyle. When I was growing up in Hawaii, I noticed how resourceful the island community was.

Consider that my father is an old timer going back to the sugar, pineapple plantation era. He knew where to go and how to barter with people for food and services. Often times you will see the farmers and fishermen together trading much of their goods.

This reminded me of what I learned at University of Hawaii Maui College. The ancient Hawaiians had perfect agriculture system that incorporated all the elements of what nature has to offer. It was a called an Ahupua'a. Self sustaining as a conceptual idea that incorporated the basic understanding for interrelationships of nature, daily living, and seasonal changes.

The landscape division is likened to wedge of pie.  From the mountains, you had trees for building, middle land, you had agriculture for your plants (taro or sweet potato), and down to the ocean, you had a natural fish farm and salt harvest.

Stewardship was the responsibility of the communities.  Trade was often the norm to provide for everyone.  Labor and annual taxes where collected by the local overseer to support the chief or king.  Supervision of community labor was within each ahupua'a to regulate activity.  Conservation was by way of the kapu or taboo system and understanding the seasons for animals and plants.

This is just my little contribution of sustainability.  Many today are looking for a way to save money, save the environment, and possibly save their community.  Educating your mind can be beneficial once you understand that this is not a new idea.  It worked in the past and it can work for anyone's future.  Give it a try. Success and happiness to you.

We live in a time where "green" is the new buzzword. Many people today are looking to simplify their lives to help the environment and their community. With technology and resources there are ways to help you do your part.

For example, did you know that producing electricity can be very simple using the Tesla method? Nikola Tesla was a genius who worked with America's greatest inventors: Thomas Edison and George Westinhouse. In his lifetime, Tesla had been awarded over 11 different patents working electricity to x-rays. But sadly for over 90 years his achievement has been hidden from the public eye.

How? In 1901, a new method of electricity for a resort community in Colorado was being developed by what Tesla provided. There were several venture investors that backed up this project. There was a realization that through this method there could not a capitalization on it. J.P. Morgan, as one of the investors, decided to pull his funding and the project was called off.

After Tesla died, the government came in and confiscated all his files. They deemed Tesla an enemy of the US because of his Austrian heritage (even though he became a US citizen in 1891). And the invention was buried.

For over 90 years this ground-breaking invention was labeled a failure and sat collecting dust in the government’s possession. And now a new group of scientists have discovered Tesla’s life-changing invention. They have taken his idea and created a simple, step-by-step guide that will allow ANYONE, ANYWHERE to begin producing their own, natural, clean, FREE electricity.

There is a way to generate natural, clean energy that was discovered by Nikola Tesla at the turn of the century… and it is still just as impressive today as it was back then. Tesla discovered that you could actually use the sun’s energy to produce electricity… instead of using the sun’s rays (as you do with solar panels). The sun is constantly radiating energy – even when your skies are dark, the sun is still shining onto earth somewhere… and it is constantly radiating this energy onto earth. And Earth just constantly absorbs this energy… the problem is that most of the energy gets rebounded back into space.

This is just a small example of what is possible.  If you are interested on other sources of energy click here.
